Over the last 30 years, I’ve worked with a wide range of organisations, from global companies to European institutions to small businesses. While much of my early work revolved around developing plans and processes designed to build organisational resilience, I saw that this could be either vastly improved or completely undermined (or somewhere between the two) by the quality of the leadership in the organisation. Consequently, I became increasingly more interested in helping people develop and practise their management, communication and team building skills.
As with everyone in Empowering Success, I am driven by working with business leaders and managers to help them create more profitable, more resilient businesses. Mostly this involves helping them develop and practise their management, communication and team building skills, and it often begins with helping them to crystallise exactly where they are in the business, what they want to achieve, and how they want to move forward as a leader. With clarity of purpose and direction, nothing can hold you back.
Career Overview:
Executive Coach (2020 – Present)
Helping to create more profitable, more resilient businesses by working with business leaders and managers to help them develop and practise their management, communication and team building skills. Working as a Coach, Trainer and/or Consultant, I provide tailored services to both individuals and teams. I also act as a Mentor to some of my clients.
Managing Director (2018 – 2020)
Direction and control of a top-100 accounting firm, working with fellow Board members to develop and implement effective strategies for profitable growth in support of its mission to release, accelerate and sustain UK innovation.
Development, implementation, and oversight of in-house management training programme, designed to promote improved leadership skills amongst all those with management responsibility. As well as sponsoring this initiative and helping to design the programme, I also led selected training sessions and acted as mentor to a small group.
Operations Director (2013 – 2018)
Development and implementation of client-focused service delivery practices, together with the control measures needed to improve productivity. Recruitment, training and coaching of client-facing teams, to enhance the customer experience and meet client retention objectives. Typically, clients were small to medium sized technology firms with a strong focus on innovation.
Director/Consultant (1996 – 2018)
Primarily focused on the development, implementation and testing of robust business continuity and crisis management arrangements for global blue-chip clients (such as European Central Bank, McDonalds, EDF and Wellcome Trust).
Role included hands-on delivery of specialist services to build our clients’ operational resilience by reducing risk and improving their management response capability. This included developing, implementing and testing robust business continuity arrangements, and coaching and rehearsing our clients’ management teams.
